Kushiyaki Suminoya Sakura is a yakitori lover’s heaven. The owner, Kota-san, would say he’s not obsessive about any particular aspect of making the best yakitori. However, the reality is quite the opposite. He makes a point to only use fresh meat instead of the frozen meat often used in many establishments. More importantly, Kota-san painstakingly prepares each skewer to the perfect size prior to cooking over Japanese binchotan charcoal. He says that when he cooks each skewer, he is speaking to the coals in a telepathic way. He listens to the sounds of the binchotan and the meat and watches for small signals that only he knows about. When the skewer has reached the perfect moment, it is served. It is clear that his world revolves around making the most perfect yakitori. They are currently offering the “Suminoya Special Course” for 5,500 yen. This course meal includes 11 different yakitori items and “all you can drink” for 90 minutes. Go check them out.
