Located an eleven minute walk from JR Miyauchikushido Station is a bakery named after the sun. The “Sun Bread Workshop,” in English, is famous for their white bread, fruit sandwiches and a selection of over thirty kinds of scones. Their breads, made without additives, ferment for ten days before being baked in a wood-fired oven. You can buy a loaf, but many enjoy the bread in the bakery’s sandwiches. The most popular sandwiches are filled with fresh fruit. Depending on the day and the season, you can find up to 15 kinds of fruit, from strawberries to dragon fruit, suspended in one of four homemade creams which change monthly. They have savory options too. The menu frequently changes, but former menus included a cutlet sandwich made with rare Seto Momiji Pork fed on oyster shells. Pork cutlets are normally deep fried, but Ohisama’s cutlets were roasted in an iron kiln, making them less fattening. Another savory option was the Silver Egg Cutlet Sandwich. A Japanese style omelet was dressed with a special mayo sauce and sandwiched between bread. Food can be taken to go, but it can also be enjoyed outdoors on the bakery’s terrace.
