Enjoy sweeping views of the Seto Inland Sea and Miyajima’s virgin forest while comfortably ascending Mount Misen. For 64 years, the Miyajima Ropeway has been ferrying people up the mountain where they can continue on to the peak or explore the many shrines, temples and natural scenic areas.
1,100 yen for adults grants a one-way pass up 433 meters of sacred mountain and over 1.5 kilometers of ancient forest, the home of wild boars, deer, white tanooki, and the mythical Tengu. The route consists of two lines. The Momijidani Line circulates small gondolas with enough space for up to eight slender people. The remaining distance is covered by the large gondolas of the Shishiiwa Line, which offers magnificent views of the island dotted sea.

Tickets can be purchased at Momijidani Station, their website, and at their kiosk at Miyajima Ferry Terminal during peak seasons. Reservations are required on weekends and Japanese holidays, and special discounts are available for small children, seniors, and individuals with disabilities. In the case of winds on the mountain exceeding 10m/s, the ropeway closes for passenger safety; check their website for closure updates.
