Yamadaya Ono Factory

Yamadaya has been making momiji-manju, Miyajima’s iconic maple-leaf-shaped pastry, since 1932. Originally founded on Miyajima, they are committed to preserving the original flavor and quality of their product, and even run their own bean paste production plant to do so. At the same time, they are always innovating, creating new styles of manju and other treats. Among their more creative momiji manju flavors are pione grape, shine muscat, red sweet potato, and pumpkin.

Yamadaya, however, is known for more than momiji manju. A popular gift are their shakushi senbei. These sweet rice crackers are formed in the shape of shakushi, rice scoops, which were invented on Miyajima. They are further printed with the image of the Great Torii and Halal-certified by Japan Islamic Trust.

Among their more innovative products are AnFan. AnFan are a cheesy twist on manju. The firm inside is filled with yellow bean paste, but the sweet, spongy outside is flavored with cheese.

Visitors to their factory in Ono can also get a tour and the opportunity to make their own momiji manju.

Yamadaya has locations all around the area. They have a shop inside JR Hatsukaichi Ferry Terminal. Another shop is located on the northern end of Omotesando, the main shopping street on Miyajima. And their factory in Ono is a four minute walk from JR Ono-Ura Station.
