A convenient two minute walk from JR Miyauchikushido station, you wouldn’t guess by the calm street and the weathered, wooden exterior that Ippo Ippo is a restaurant twice awarded the Michelin Guide’s Bib Gourmand award, first in 2013 and again in 2018. The award is given to restaurants that serve quality food at reasonable prices. In the words of the Michelin Guide, a Bib Gourmand restaurant will “leave you with a sense of satisfaction, at having eaten so well at such a reasonable price.”
Every day customers are welcomed with a surprisingly large number of menu items, including daily specials and a large selection of alcohol that includes rare bottles from all over Japan. The dishes will hit you with their beauty as they come out. Each plate is artfully arranged using fresh seasonal fish and vegetables to the point that it’s barely appropriate to call it an izakaya menu. The assorted sashimi is a strikingly colorful assortment of seasonal wild fish from nearby waters. The grilled mackerel with saikyo miso sauce invites the appetite with complementary reds and greens against creamy earth tones. The shrimp and taro manju in ankake sauce is reminiscent of an island rising out of the Seto Inland Sea.
